It’s with a heavy heart that I announce this, but BROADSIDE is ending for the foreseeable future.
The next ten pages are pencils (sketch stage) and dialogue only. Since I made the decision to stop, I wanted to at least finish the last pages but I am so burnt out on this story I cannot even bring myself to do it. I would have worked from these pencils directly if I finished the pages, and luckily the way I draw them is clear enough an average person can understand what’s happening. I feel like I owe it to you all to at least show what I had planned next, and some context as to why Georgiana’s encounter with Alonso changes the whole game in the story.
Stopping this webcomic was a hard decision to make, as these characters have been with me for nearly the past 5 years and I love them dearly. Unfortunately this is a story I no longer have the drive to tell. There are multiple frustrating issues that I can’t push past anymore, including plot points I wish I had setup differently, many design choices, and the now-set pace at which things happen.
I have also been thinking about my career, and unfortunately I feel this comic, while it taught me SO many things about how to make comics and still does, is restraining me. I need a change of characters and scenery to continue to grow. I want to go to other worlds and tell other stories!
Hopefully someday, I will come back and show the rest of how this found family of lesbian pirates falls apart and comes together again stronger than ever.
My Patreon will stay up, as I have many other (queer women) things I’m working on and will be sharing there! This includes complete PDFs of any multi-page comic I make as soon as I finish them!
If you want to casually keep up with my future work, development, sketches, etc, please go follow me on Twitter!!
If you’ve been here since the beginning, thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you came in later, thank you too. I hope you all enjoyed the voyage, and I hope I can be your captain again someday.
May your sails ever be full and your skies clear.
Yours,
-Noella
Thanks so much for all those years of work, Noella. I love your characters, and the story, and you’ve made them deep enough so they’ll stay alive for me, like old friends you don’t see anymore. I’m glad for you that your life is rich and changing, wish you the best.
I wish there was a like button for the comments section! Thank you for supporting me all these years, it always made me happy to see your username pop up after I posted an update. I hope you’ll stick around for my next project!
Noella, this has been one of my favorite comics ever. I’m sad it won’t be finished, but I understand you have to do what is best for you. I can’t wait to see the incredible work you create in the future.
